In May 2024, we were given the opportunity to work with United Utilities on the Whitegate Wastewater Treatment Works (WWTW) project. The project introduced two Fuji Clean CRX50 units—the first of their kind in the UK—to improve phosphorus removal.
Project Scope
Our team was responsible for supporting the early contractor involvement (ECI) phase, contributing to design development, and completing preparatory works to enable access to a highly constrained site. One of the biggest challenges was transporting and installing two 10-metre-long tanks down a narrow country lane and placing them within a cofferdam on a tight footprint. Over the following seven months, we coordinated design, logistics, and installation, working closely with United Utilities and key partners to ensure a smooth delivery.
Project Impact
The successful commissioning of the Fuji Clean CRX50 units represents a pioneering step in phosphorus removal technology within the UK. Our involvement not only helped overcome significant site and installation challenges but also supported United Utilities in adopting an innovative treatment solution that will contribute to improved environmental outcomes. This project stands as a strong example of collaborative delivery, made possible through the expertise and commitment of all partners involved.
